Broadway music docks at Land Harbor
The Land Harbor Show Group presents its 2012 production,
“Baubles, Bangles and Broadway, A History of the American Musical,” July 27 to 29 in Crossnore.
The show will feature songs from some of the greatest Broadway hits during the past 100 years, from the “Ziegfeld Follies” to the recent “Jersey Boys.”
It will include Broadway music from many of the great American musical composers and lyricists, including Rodgers and Hammerstein, Cole Porter, George M. Cohen, Lerner and Lowe, and others. Several comedy sketches are also on the program.
The show will be performed at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, July 27 and 28, and at 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 29. All performances will be at the Hayes Fine Arts Center at the Crossnore Academy.
Tickets are $8 apiece and will be available at the door, at the Land Harbor library (Monday through Friday, from 2 to 4 p.m.) or by calling call (828) 733-0164 for reservations.
The Land Harbor Show Group is a nonprofit group comprised of residents of Land Harbor and the surrounding communities. The group has been producing annual summer musical programs for 20 years. This is the first year that its venue has moved to the Crossnore campus.
This year’s production was written and directed by French Harvey, who wrote and directed the 2008 production, “A Tribute to Ed Sullivan,” and the 2009 production, “Thank You, Mr. Berlin.”
This year’s production has more than 20 cast members. The Show Group will be making a donation to the Crossnore Academy Drama Department from the profits of the production.
Crossnore Academy, part of The Crossnore School, is located at 129 Allen Circle in Crossnore.
