Blue Ridge Trombone Quartet performs Oct. 27
The Blue Ridge Trombone Quartet performs Sunday, Oct. 27, at
Appalachian State University.
The quartet is comprised of music faculty or orchestra members
from the Southeast. Their performance begins at 3 p.m. in Broyhill Music Center’s Recital Hall.
Admission is free.
The program features works by Antonín Dvorák, Désiré Dondeyne, Leonard
Bernstein and Leslie Bassett.
Quartet members are Dr. Nathan Dishman, Dr. Drew Leslie, Sean
McGhee and Dr. Cory Mixdorf.
Dishman serves on the faculty of the University of Virginia and is
principal trombone of the Charlottesville Symphony. He is a former member of the Des Moines
Symphony, Saint Joseph Symphony, Lee’s Summit Symphony and Liberty Symphony.
Leslie
joined the faculty of the Hayes School of Music at Appalachian in fall 2011 and is the assistant
professor of trombone. He has performed with symphony orchestras across the southeast and in Ohio
and Michigan. Leslie is a Conn-Selmer Performing Artist.
McGhee is the bass trombonist of the
Akron Symphony, Canton Symphony, Youngstown Symphony, Kentucky Symphony and Columbus Indiana
Philharmonic. He was awarded a one-year position with the Des Moines Metro Opera in
2012.
Mixdorf has been an active performer and educator in the Atlanta area since his arrival
at Georgia State University in 2009. Outside of his collegiate duties, Mixdorf performs with
several area ensembles including the Chattanooga Symphony Orchestra, the Symphony Orchestra Augusta,
the Columbus Symphony Orchestra and the LaGrange Symphony Orchestra. Mixdorf is a Conn-Selmer
Performing Artist.
