Bach, Mozart and More
Watauga County residents Willa and Ledah Finck will present a year-end violin recital at 4 p.m. on Sunday, May 20, at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, located at 170 Councill Street in Boone.
The recital is free and open to the public.
The sisters will perform masterworks by Bach, Bruch, Lalo, Saint Saens, Mozart, Paganini and Sarasate. Piano accompaniment will be provided by Dr. Allison Gagnon, director of the Collaborative Piano Program at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts (UNCSA).
Ledah and Willa are well-known locally as two of the three fiddlers in the popular Celtic band, “The Forget-Me-Nots.” However, their main focus as musicians has been playing classical music, which they have each done for more than 13 years.
Ledah is graduating from the high school program at UNCSA. She will attend UNC-Chapel Hill this fall as a recipient of the Kenan Music Scholars award.
Willa is a rising junior at Watauga High School. Willa currently studies with Dr. Nancy Bargerstock at the Hayes School of Music at Appalachian State University. Ledah, a former student of Bargerstock’s, has studied with Kevin Lawrence at UNCSA for the past year.
Both young women have been active participants in the Watauga High School Honors Orchestra and members of the Appalachian State University Symphony Orchestra.
