Jazz
vocalists perform Dec. 1 at ASU
Jason Thompson directs Appalachian State University's Jazz Vocal
Ensemble in a Dec. 1 performance. The program begins at 8 p.m. in Broyhill Music Center's Rosen
Concert Hall. Admission is free.
The vocalists will be accompanied by pianist Matthew Power,
bass player Zachary Sprau and percussionist Heath Towson.
The program includes "Here's That
Rainy Day," "All of Me," "Embraceable You" and "Lover Come Back to Me."
Appalachian Guitar
Ensemble performs Dec. 6
The Appalachian Guitar Ensemble performs Sunday, Dec. 6, at 8 p.m. in
Broyhill Music Center's Rosen Concert Center at Appalachian State University. Admission is free.
Guests performing with the ensemble are flutist: Nancy Schneeloch-Bingham, violinists
Chelsea Whittaker and Witold Kosmala, and David Hunt playing the viola de gamba.
The program
includes William Boyce's "Symphony No. 1," Alan Hirsh's "Celtic Suite," Fernando Sor's "Variations
on a Theme of Mozart, op. 9" and Joaquin Rodrigo's "Invocacion y
Danza."
The guitarists also will perform Marin Marais's "Sonate a la Maresienne," Andrew York's "Pacific
Coast Highway," Leo Brouwer's "Cuban Landscape with Rumba" and M. D. Leontovych's "Carol of the
Bells."
The ensemble is directed by Douglas James, a member of the Hayes School of Music
faculty.
