ASU Old-Time Fiddlers Convention Feb. 18
Acclaimed picker Tim O’Brien will perform a concert at ASU, following the Old-Time Fiddlers Convention and Luthiers Gathering Feb. 18.
The Appalachian Heritage Council presents the fourth annual
Old-Time Fiddlers Convention and Luthiers Gathering on Saturday, Feb. 18, in the Appalachian State
University Plemmons Student Union from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
The convention will include a day
full of youth and adult music competitions, a luthiers gathering, handmade craft market and dance
competition. Registration will open at 10 a.m. The first completion will begin at 11 a.m.
The
day will end with an evening concert, featuring Tim O’Brien, a key figure in today’s thriving
roots music scene.
O’Brien’s presence – be it as a bandleader, songwriter, mentor,
instrumentalist or vocalist – has been strongly felt not only in his own rich music, but in the
many recordings of his songs by such artists as the Dixie Chicks, Garth Brooks, Dierks Bentley,
Nickel Creek, and in his recorded collaborations with Steve Martin, the Chieftains and numerous
others.
The Tim O’Brien concert will be held at Legends on the Appalachian campus.
Concertgoers must be at least 18 years old to attend. Tickets are on sale at the Plemmons Student
Union information desk or by calling (828) 262-3030). Student tickets are $10 and guests’
tickets are $12. The concert will begin 8 p.m., and doors open at 7:30 p.m. Guests 21 years and
older are welcome to bring a six-pack of beer or one bottle of wine.
This event is
