A Sunday of Music at Galileo's
The Worthless Son in Laws will perform Sunday at Galileo's in Boone, as part of the eatery's benefit for OASIS Inc.
Galileo's Bar & Cafe is raising funds to a different
tune.
On Sunday, the downtown Boone eatery is hosting a full day of live music with nine area
bands, all of whom will donate their fees toward OASIS (Opposing Abuse with Services, Information
and Shelter) Inc.
"I think it'll be a great time for a great cause," Galileo's co-owner Anne
Dixon aid. "It'll be great for people who don't know about OASIS to learn about what they do and how
they service the High Country."
Founded in 1978, the nonprofit OASIS concentrates its efforts
on ending domestic violence and sexual assault in Watauga County.
Galileo's has had an
ongoing relationship with OASIS from the restaurant's get-go, donating 1 percent of its sales to the
cause. "We're committed to them, and we're still doing it," Dixon said.
On board, musically,
are Tom Shirley, Shemus, Mountain Laurels, Corey Hunt, Drawlstrings, Major Sevens, Worthless Son in
Laws, Sentry and High Country Neckbeards.
"A lot of (the performers) come from relationships
that have grown organically with us, having played at our place," Dixon said. "Some of them have
worked with OASIS in the past, and they all were just down with doing the show, and kind enough to
do it for free. They're all just great people."
Listeners can expect a range of different
tunes, from folk to bluegrass to country to outright jamming and everything in between.
"And
we're going to, hopefully, end with a jam of everybody who's played," Dixon said. "And then we'll
try to close before we get our first noise complaint."
The cover costs $4, all of which will
directly benefit OASIS. Food and drink specials will run throughout the day, and people can come and
go as they please, Dixon said, adding that the show will be held outdoors.
"We wanted to do
something special and have an outdoor event at Galileo's, so we felt the two went hand in hand,"
Dixon said. "We're always looking for opportunities to work with the community."
