The Nth Degree Gallery & Studios turns 12 this year,
and members plan to celebrate this and their Nthdependence on
Friday, July 3.
Over the past decade and then some, the downtown Boone gallery
has survived as an independent, never-for-profit (not to be confused
with nonprofits or not-for-profits) art venue showcasing emerging
and established artists in the High Country.
It has been a struggle at times trying to make our yearly
fundraiser, tip jar and meager sales commissions stretch the entire
year, a gallery spokesperson said. There have been
times when we considered throwing in the towel. But, we have made
it this far and are proud of that fact.
To celebrate its Nthdependence, the gallery will host its annual
fundraiser on July 3 at 7 p.m., the first Friday of the month,
during which downtown Boone enjoys its monthly Art Crawl. The
gallerys 2009 fundraising goal has been set at $1,200, the
amount necessary to continue another year.
In the grand scheme of things, thats not a lot of
money, but for an underground gallery, it means existence,
the spokesperson said. It means paying the power bill, fixing
broken things, painting the walls, buying nails and toilet paper
you know, the important stuff.
Nthdependence Day will feature artwork from former and current
members, including Lowell Hayes, Greg Smith, Virginia Knuckolls,
Keeler Kaple, Michael Allen and more. A raffle and refreshments
will be available, as well.
The Nth Degree Gallery & Studios is located at 683 W. King
St.
