Town of Boone expands recycling program
Pasteboard now included in pickups

As part of the town of Boone’s ongoing commitment to improving and sustaining the environment and community, the town of Boone Public Works Department announces that as of July 1 it will be expanding the town’s recycling program to include pasteboard in the town’s curbside recycling pickups.

“Pasteboard is a sizable component of our waste stream and our goal is to reduce the impact on our landfills by reusing and recycling as much as possible,” a spokesperson for the Public Works Department

Pasteboard is considered a mixed paper item and can be included in your recycling bin along with your other paper recyclables. It is accepted in both our residential and business recycling programs.

Items considered to be Pasteboard are as follows: Cereal, beverage, dry food, office supply and shoe boxes; toilet paper rolls and paper towel rolls; brown paper bags.

No wax coated pasteboard, such as juice or milk cartons, pizza boxes or frozen food boxes. If refrigeration or freezer is required, it can not be recycled. When preparing your recycling, please remember to break down or flatten all brown paper bags and boxes prior to putting it in your recycling bin.

Please do not confuse pasteboard with corrugated cardboard. Corrugated cardboard is made up of layers of board designed for strength and durability use primarily for shipping purposes. Corrugated cardboard is a recyclable at drop-sites only for residential customers (location listed below).
