Tartuffe in Greensboro
By Joanne Brannon Aldridge
Triad Stage in Greensboro will present the world premiere
of the 90-minute adaptation of Molieres classic comedy
Tartuffe or The Hypocrite through June 28.
Preston Lane of Boone has adapted the play and is directing
it. Lane is co-founder and artistic director of Triad Stage,
where he is completing his eighth season after directing 32
productions.
Lane characterizes the adaptation as bold and contemporary
updated to a very modern-day high fashion Paris.
Triad Stage notes describe the play: Orgon is a happy
man with a lovely family, a beautiful new wife, an incredible
fortune, and a spiritual father who promises him eternal bliss. But
he falls into the trap of an impostor, the hypocrite Tartuffe
who is plotting to steal everything from Orgon. Can anything
stop him?
Preston Lane is also artistic director of theatre programming
for Appalachian Summer.
Tickets are available by calling Triad Stage at (866) 579-TIXX
or (336) 272-0160. Prices range from $10 to $42. Triad
Stage is located at 232 S. Elm St., Greensboro.
