realistic styles, as the gallery continues its 27th Spring
Exhibition. These landscape paintings cover many styles, mediums
and textures as expressed by Bill Farnsworth, Roy Nichols, Jim
Crompton, Peter Paglen, Freeman Beard, Egi Antonaccio and Andrew
Braitman.
The subject matter of these paintings ranges from artistic impressions
of Grandfather Mountain, woodland waterfalls, rural farms, local
rivers and streams painted in each artists individual
style expressing sentiment, beauty and emotion. Local and regional
landscape paintings at the gallery will be the focus of the
upcoming initial Avery Tour de Art on June 27.
Carlton Gallery is planning a landscape workshop with nationally
recognized artist Bill Farnsworth to further appreciate and
enjoy the mountain scenery. This outdoor workshop will be held
at the Moses Cone National Park on July 21, 22 and 23, where
participants will experience painting en plein aire
and capture on canvas the pristine beauty of this treasured
landmark.
Farnsworth plans an hour demonstration along with an in-depth
talk about plein air painting and basic painting principles.
A picnic lunch, a suitable field easel, oil paint, brushes and
mineral spirits are all that is needed to participate.
Farnsworth is a very versatile painter whose plein air style
is much admired and highly collected. His realistically rendered
oils on canvas of local mountain scenery, old barns and portraits
are so genuine and sincere, it gives the feeling that one just
stepped into and became a part of the painting. Farnsworth visits
the High Country to paint local mountain-scapes, old barns,
and waterfalls found nestled along the Blue Ridge Parkway.
Farnsworth was born in Connecticut, where he lived for many
years painting landscapes of the rural area. He is a graduate
of the Ringling College of Art and Design in Florida, where
he now resides with his family. Along with landscapes, Farnsworth
also creates paintings for magazines, advertisements, childrens
books and fine art portraits. Breathtaking portraits utilizing
his amazing use of light and shadow also grace the walls at
Carlton Gallery. He is a member of the Society of Illustrators
and The Oil Painters of America, and has illustrated more than
40 books for children, including the Kaya series from American
Girl. Farnsworths paintings are in many national
juried shows and private collections throughout the United States.
Spaces are still available for Bill Farnsworths plein
air workshop, and Carlton Gallerys 27th Spring Exhibition
runs through July 15. The gallery is located 10 miles south
of Boone and 7 miles north of Linville on N.C. 105 in the Grandfather
Community.
