The Avery A&H Fair is hosting the inaugural High Country
Idol, and auditions begin July 18.
You wont find Randy, Paula or Simon at the judges
table, but you will find other familiar faces. The High Country
Idol is open to anyone at least 10 years of age who are from
Avery, Mitchell and Watauga counties, as well as Roan Mountain,
Tenn.
The auditions will be divided between two age divisions: 10-17
years and 18 years and up. The top five performers from each
division will perform at the Avery A&H Fair Thursday, Sept.
3, with the winners announced the same night. Each winner will
open for Saturday nights fair entertainment.
The Idol auditions will be held Saturday, July 18, at Avery
County Middle School in Newland. If needed, auditions and callbacks
will also be held Sunday, July 19. Avery Middle School is located
on High School Road off of N.C. 181.
The entry fee is $20, and contestants must bring one age appropriate
song to perform. Entry fees will support the Avery A&H Fair.
Prizes will include a performance on WECR, a performance on
