From Wine to Water to Fundraisers

Local nonprofit Wine to Water (WTW) is offering a variety of events throughout the summer, which will support its international aid efforts.
WTW’s mission is dedicated to providing clean water and sanitation to developing areas and to spread awareness domestically about the need for clean water and other forms of aid around the world.
The organization’s recent efforts have included installing multiple wells in southern Ethiopia, Darfur and Cambodia. The organization has funded a sanitation system for an orphanage in India and began construction on a training facility in Uganda. The training facility will help local people learn to meet their own water needs. Also in Uganda, the group has started a bio-sand filter project, with the goal of funding 250 filters by the end of the year.

Local nonprofit Wine to Water has moved to a new location and is offering a new way to support its overseas water and sanitation projects.

Wine to Water has moved its offices to 703 West King St., where it now offers a selection of wines for sale.

The organization offers 36 different labels ranging in price from $8 to $25 available on location. Doc Hendley, Wine to Water executive director, said the group provides wine for regular retail price. “All the money made selling wine will go to water projects globally,” he said.

He said patrons can also order specific wines or a bulk amount of wine for parties and weddings.

Hendley said he hopes the new location and selling wine will not only raise funds for the organization’s efforts, but also raise awareness about water issues. Party and wedding hosts can tell their guests that the event’s wine helped support international water projects.

Hendley said Wine to Water is also working with a vineyard to develop its own wine label, which will go to further support the organization’s efforts.

In addition to selling wine, the new location serves as an art gallery. Wine to Water has begun to participate in Art Crawl events, held on the first Friday of each month.
