Tom Dooley hangs down his head' for an 8th season

Tickets are now on sale for Wilkes Playmakers' 8th Season of "Tom Dooley: A Wilkes County Legend". All tickets are $15 with group rates available for groups of 10 or more upon request. The show is performed outdoors in Historic Fort Hamby Park at the Forest Edge Amphitheatre on Highway 421 N in Wilkesboro, NC. People nationwide have been fascinated and intrigued with the Tom Dooley story for over a century. The murder of Laura Foster in the Elkville community, now known as Ferguson, NC, was one of the nation's first highly publicized crimes of passion. Tom Dooley (Dula) was hanged for the crime but many questions were left unanswered. The Kingston Trio catapulted Tom Dooley to fame again in the 1960's with their international hit "Tom Dooley". Visitors still travel from far and wide to visit the graves and tour the countryside where the story took place. "Tom Dooley: A Wilkes County Legend" fills many gaps for serious Tom Dooley fans.

Scenes are tied together with authentic acoustic Bluegrass music from the foothills. Order your tickets today. Maybe you can solve the mystery! This show is sponsored in part by Venture Properties and Mike's Body Shop. To purchase tickets click on "Tickets" on this website or call 336-838-7529 or purchase onsite at Fort Hamby Park on the night of the performance you wish to attend. In the event of rain - your ticket will serve as a "rain" pass to attend another performance or you may use it for our 9th Season.

Audition for "The Outsiders"
Wilkes Playmakers will hold auditions for the Fall production of "The Outsiders" on May 26, 27 and 28 from 6-8 pm at Benton Hall, 300 D Street, North Wilkesboro, in the upstairs theatre. S.E. Hinton's powerful compassionate book about young people is the source of this play, just as it was for the film version which has become a modern classic. Every role in S.E. Hinton's creation has a special impact, which may have contributed to the fact that an extraordinary number of those appearing in that film became major movie stars, including Tom Cruise, Diane Lane, Patrick Swayze, Emilio Estevez, Rob Lowe, Matt Dillon, Ralph Macchio and C. Thomas Howell. This stage adaptation deals with real people seen through the eyes of Ponyboy, a young "greaser" caught up in territorial battles between the have-it-made rich kids - the "Socs" - and his tough underprivileged "greaser" family and friends. Set in 1965 in Tulsa Oklahoma, "The Outsiders" has speaking roles for 8 males of teenage - young adult age ranges. There are 3 speaking roles for teenage girls. There are 5 minor roles for adults. There are non-speaking roles available for teenage - young adult males, particularly for the fight scenes. Auditions will involve group readings, improvisations and brief stage combat interactions. Those interested are encouraged to read the book prior to auditions. A limited number of scripts will be available for check-out at Benton Hall by Monday May 12th. "The Outsiders" will be directed by Paula Joines. "The Outsiders" will be presented in August.

Time : 6:00 p.m. Location : Benton Hall, 300 D Street, North Wilkesboro
