The life of dancing bombshell Ginger Rogers comes to the stage in the new musical biography Backwards in High Heels.

Blowing Rock Stage Company are making plans for the 2008 season.

This week the BRSC announced the stage shows that will make up its 2008 summer and fall production seasons. The year will feature comedies, musicals, a Shakespeare play, a Charles Dickens story with a decidedly local spin, and much more.

Along with the 2008 BRSC stage schedule, the Mariam and Robert Hayes Performing Arts Center in Blowing Rock unveiled its 2008 Presenting Series. The series includes live music presentations, dramatic performances and comedy.

The 2008 summer season kicks off with the musical 8-Track May 23 through June 8. The musical takes the audience on a wonderful trip through the past as the sounds of the 70s come alive on stage.

Subsequent summer offerings include The Immigrant (June 13-22), the comedy of errors Leading Ladies (June 27-July 12), the beloved musical fantasy Peter Pan (July 18-August 3), and the Neil Simon comedy Rumors (August 15-24).

One of the highlights of the BRSC’s 2008 summer season will be the area premiere of the new play Backwards in High Heels, taking the Hayes Center stage August 29 through September 14. The show is the musical biography of Ginger Rogers and gets its name from the famous quote, “She did everything Fred Astaire could do, only backwards and in high heels.” The stage show had its world premiere in March 2007 in Florida with dancing and acting sensation Amber Stone in the lead role.

The BRSC’s Leaf Season 2008 will feature William Shakespeare’s The Tempest October 3-12 and Lies & Legends: The Musical Stories of Harry Chapin October 17 through November 2.

For its annual holiday stage offering in 2008, the Blowing Rock Stage Company will present A High Country Christmas Carol December 5-14. The show is a version of Charles Dickens’ classic Christmas tale with a homespun mountain twist.

Rocket Players in 2008
The BRSC’s Rocket Players Youth Theatre will present You’re A Good Man Charlie Brown at the Hayes Center May 1-4. The show will feature plenty of great homegrown acting talent. Tickets are $14 for adults and $7 for students.

Tickets for 2008 Season
Tickets for 2008 Blowing Rock Stage Company productions come in a wide variety of packages including summer passes, full season passes, “pick 10” passes, “flex 10” passes and individual tickets. Early bird season passes are available at significant savings until January 15, 2008.
