BREW Bikes of West Jefferson offered a frame building
class last week and it exceeded all expectations, according
to Owner Steve Garn of BREW Bikes. The class was essentially
the only one of its kind nationwide as it was a class
offered by a manufacturer and based on its great success,
it is probably the first of many.
The class included a welding course and assistance in
final welding and at least 50 hours of instruction along
with hands-on experience. John Basile from San Jose, Calif.;
Jay Johnson from Tampa, Fla.; Chris Bishop of Baltimore,
Md.; Derek Ford of San Jose, Calif.; and John Norenberg
of Kenosha, Wis. all participated in the first class offered
by BREW.
This class completely exceeded expectations
a few of the guys said they might try to come back. They
loved it here and were just amazed everything from
how nice the staff at the local restaurants were to how
much they loved working in the class. The only complaints
we had was that none of their cell phones worked and that
time passed too quickly, Garn explained Monday morning.
These guys were here from all over the place and
they built different kinds of frames totally, but they
loved it. They didnt want to leave. We all had a
really good time and I was completely in shock that it
went so well. We really had fun last week and it went
very well.
Ford said he had a great time in the week-long class and
learned a lot. Yeah, my favorite part of the trip
was the fun. We had a great time in your town. The locals
were nice and friendly. The food was awesome. Steve put
a lot of soul into this and we gained so much knowledge
in little time.
Garn was also very pleased that everyone got along so
well and had such a great time. As he explained on BREWs
webpage, For 20 years I have been asked to do classes.
I always said no because I wasnt sure how it would
end up. Not in my wildest dreams (I have some really WILD
ones) would I have ever imagined what really happened
this week. Will they get along? Get along!? That is the
biggest under statement I have seen in a long time. We
had a blast with everyone helping each other, Garn
said.
We went out to eat together. Man, the stories and
the laughter was better than any summer camp I went to
when I was younger (I still remember when I was younger!).
We have several great local restaurants - we went out
together in the evening and man was it great. Every night
they had to stay open past closing because of the great
time we were having. All the restaurant staffs were great
also this week for letting us stay late. So, my first
problem never showed up which totally amazed me.
Garn said the participants were very excited and proud
of their learning and building experience during the class.
At the closing dinner, all commented on how tired
they were. They said it was hard to sleep at night because
of all the ideas about the frame they were building kept
coming and coming and they were excited to get back to
work. Everyone at the end was making sure they had phone
numbers, addresses, cell numbers and e-mail addresses
so they could keep in touch. Many friendships were made
here.
The next BREW Bikes Frame Building Class will be offered
March 27-31st. Garn said he also plans to offer a fabrication
class in April that will discuss all aspects of welding
methods, welding machines, plasma and torch metal cutting
as well as powder coating. For more information, visit
