German film series concludes April 1
'The Marriage of Maria Braun' will be screened April 1 at ASU, closing out this year's German film series.
During spring semester 2012, Appalachian State University’s
Center for Judaic, Holocaust and Peace Studies has hosted a series of feature films and
documentaries on Germany in the 20th century.
The series comes to a close Sunday,
April 1, at 2 p.m. with a screening of “The Marriage of Maria Braun.”
Released in 1979,
directed by Rainer Werner Fassbinder and starring Hanna Schygulla, “The Marriage of Maria Braun” is
about postwar Germany’s reconstruction as seen through the struggles and prosperity of an
aggressive young war bride.
The film will be introduced briefly by one of the center’s
co-directors, who will be available to answer questions. Admission is free and open to the
public.
The series is sponsored by the Center for Judaic, Holocaust, and Peace Studies,
ASU’s College of Arts and Sciences and the Joseph and Frieda Ross Foundation.
