ASU sustainability film series continues
The sustainability film series at Appalachian State University
enters the third year with films that focus on environmental and economic issues and social
justice.
A feature-length film will be shown in Greer Auditorium each month during
spring semester. All films begin at 7 p.m. and are shown free of charge. A 30-minute panel

‘Economics of Happiness’
Tuesday, Feb. 21
“Economics of Happiness”
portrays a world of duality where big business and government are at odds with people around the
world who are demanding a re-regulation of trade and finance. This film documents communities coming
together to create a new paradigm of localization. Sponsored by Sustainable Development.
‘The Last Mountain’
Tuesday, March 20
“The Last Mountain” is a film about the ongoing battle between the need to balance America’s energy needs with the environmental and social effects on communities in West Virginia. Sponsored by the Renewable Energy Initiative and Belk Library.
‘Wasteland’
Tuesday, April 17
“Wasteland” follows artist Vik Muniz as he journeys through Brazil and the world’s largest landfill near Rio de Janeiro. Muniz recreates images of the city’s trash pickers, “catadores,” using trash as one of his mediums. It becomes a mission to help the catadores transform their lives through art and the re-imagination of their lives. Sponsored by the Energy Center.
