Monday Night Concert Series in Blowing Rock will present the second of five concerts on Monday, July 9, at 7 p.m.
Series founder Amy Marie Young will be performing, along with Amy Walls Woodall, Barter Theatre pianist Steve Sensenig and jazz guitarist Andy Page.
Young has been working with the town of Blowing Rock to direct the Monday Night Concert Series since 2000. The shows are a spinoff of the famous Farm House Inn and Restaurant that employed college-aged singers to perform and wait tables. Oftentimes, a former Farm House singer will perform at a concert in the park, and this year has been no exception. Much in the style of the Farm House, the concerts are variety based cabaret shows, offering a bit of everything for Blowing Rock audiences.
Young is visiting the High Country from her current home in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where she teaches music at an International School. She will be performing musical theater, jazz and popular selections.
The Monday Night Concert Series takes place in Broyhill Park, off of Clark Street in Blowing Rock. These park concerts offer a relaxed, casual atmosphere for guests and residents of Blowing Rock to enjoy free entertainment.
The rest of the summer season will feature bluegrass band The Walker Family and, later in the summer, songwriter John T. Woodall and bluegrass musician Jonathan Maness.
Concerts begin at 7 p.m., and audiences are asked to bring a lawn chair or blanket for their comfort. The inclement weather location is the American Legion Building on Park Avenue.
