It's the High Country Youth Fishing Classic, and it's coming to the Lees-McRae College Millpond on May 21, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Open to all youth 14 and under, the free competition awards prizes, trophies and cash awards to young fishermen in several age group divisions, along with special awards for tagged fish.
Organizers say participants need only bring a pole, bait, tackle and determination; they'll provide the rest.
Concessions will be sold on-site, and entire families are welcome to attend (and to bring their lawn chairs).
Parking is available at the Williams Gym and former Cannon Memorial Hospital.
