Whip Daddys close Banner Elk concert series Sept. 1
The Banner Elk Chamber of Commerce's last Summer Concert in the Park for the season will be on Thursday, Sept. 1, featuring the Whip Daddys.
The Whip Daddys have been performing in the Banner Elk area for more than 14 years. Some of the faces have changed in that time, but consistent have been the vocals of Hope Harvey, the vocals and sax playing sound of Dennis Murphy, keyboards, guitar and vocals of Ed Main and vocals and instrumental spot man of Dave Calvert.
The band still actively plays at Esseola Lodge in Linville and The Apple Barn in Valle Crucis primarily on a "word of mouth" basis, as the band has not advertised collectively as a group in years.
Performing a variety of genres, including beach, Motown and dance music, the Whip Daddys will perform at 6:30 p.m. at the Tate Evans Town Park stage, located behind Bank of America on N.C. 194. This particular concert is sponsored by Erick's Cheese & Wine.
Attendees are encouraged to bring chairs or blankets and coolers. Food will also be available for purchase, as will raffle tickets for a variety of prizes, as well as a cash drawing. Admission is free.
