Watauga Humane Society grand opening Nov. 6

The Watauga Humane Society will hold a grand opening
celebration of its new state-of-the-art, 17,000-square-foot animal shelter on Sunday, Nov. 6, from 1
to 4 p.m.
The shelter is located at 312 Paws Way in Boone.
Kicking off the grand
opening celebration at 1 p.m. will be a key-Turning teremony with past Humane Society president Dee
Dundon.
There will be many family friendly activities during the afternoon, which include an
animal petting corral, guided tours of the new facility, and face painting for the Kids.
An
Adopt-A-Pet Parade of the Watauga Humane Society’s dogs will occur during the celebration.
Live
music will be provided by Left of Blue and Jo Northup. Gift bags of doggie and kitty treats and toys
will be given away, along with door prizes, including a grand prize of an annual membership to the
Dog Park. Finger food and refreshments will be provided.
During the grand opening
celebration, the Watauga Humane Society will offer a special adoption fee of $10 off the regular dog
and cat adoption fees.
There will also be a book signing with Nancy A. Kaiser, animal
communicator and healer, author of “Tales of an Animal Communicator: Master Teachers.”
The
Watauga Humane Society’s Irma Baker Lyons Adoption and Education Center is located at 312 Paws Way.
Take U.S. 421 South toward Deep Gap, go past Blue Ridge Electric (on the left), at the next light
(across from Food Lion) take a right on Old U.S. 421 South. Drive approximately a half mile, past
the ReStore, then turn right onto Don Hayes Road, beside the Rutherwood Baptist Church.
Beyond the church’s parking lot, turn right onto Paws Way, beside the Dog Park. The new
facility is located up on the hill, above the Dog Park. The front door is “around back,” which
allows the sun to shine into the cat rooms located on each side of the front door.
