WHS hosts Dog Jog 2011 Sept. 24
Put your best paw forward for the 2011 Watauga Humane Society Dog Jog.
The annual fundraiser pads onto the Boone Greenway Saturday, Sept. 24, at 11 a.m., and everyone – pet or no – is invited to join in the fun.
The Dog Jog is open to joggers and walkers alike, who must tackle one mile on the greenway to raise money for the Watauga Humane Society. Participants get a Dog Jog 2011 T-shirt and the chance to win prizes aplenty, while enjoying a variety activities.
All dogs must wear current identification and rabies vaccination tags and be on a six-foot or shorter leash at all times. Organizers ask that participants not bring dogs younger than 6 months of age, and also that owners pick up after their dog if he or she makes a mess. Water will be provided.
Dog-less? No problem. Dogs are not required for participation, as the Watauga Humane Society will bring a limited number of shelter pooches to join in the fun. However, those planning to jog with a Humane Society dog should register early.
The Dog Jog also includes family-oriented and pet-friendly activities, contests and prizes, including Best Costume, Best Trick, Best Owner/Dog Lookalike, Biggest Dog, Smallest Dog, Most Miles Traveled to Attend and Most Pledge Dollars Raised, as well as pet-related vendors.
Registration costs $22 and includes the commemorative Dog Jog 2011 T-shirt. Early registration takes place Friday evening, Sept. 23, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Sage Sports in the Boome Mall. Day-of registration runs from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at the Watauga Parks and Recreation Complex, located at 231 Complex Drive, just off State Farm Road and Hunting Hills Lane, in Boone. The Dog Jog begins at 11 a.m.
