UFO events in Linville Falls June 11 and 12
By Bernadette Cahill
English UFO expert Steven Jones will appear at the Community Church in Linville Falls at 3 p.m. on Sunday, June 12, to talk about his experiences of extra-terrestrial encounters.
The presentation has no set entry fee, but audience donations will be welcome.
The evening before, Saturday, June 11, Spruce Pine UFO researcher Don Cooper, the organizer of the Linville Falls Village event, will lead a group from the village into a viewing area in the hope that they will see the Brown Mountain Lights.
The lights are a phenomenon that appears as lights against the backdrop of Brown Mountain. Many people have reported them in the area through the centuries, but attempts to explain them have yielded more theory than fact.
Cooper may take a group in on the Sunday if the Saturday is rained out.
Jones, from London, England, claims to have not only experienced UFOs in the past, but continues to have frequent extra-terrestrial encounters, said Cooper, who added that Jones' talk is always received with great enthusiasm. After the talk, Jones will autograph copies of his recently published book, "An Invitation to the Dance," which audience members can buy that day.
Cooper is a key researcher of the Brown Mountain Lights. In 2005, he began to record their appearance with a wide variety of data, such as the length of time they appeared, a description of what they look like during each occurrence and the quality of the experience on a scale of one to 10.
Cooper said he's been to see the lights 54 times and on only four occasions has he failed to see them.
