The CATS' Meow
The Hayes Performing Arts Center hosts the Appalachian Regional Theatrical Society's production of "CATS," the second longest-running show on Broadway.
The Tennessee-based company will bring the show to Blowing Rock for three performances: May 13, 14 and 15.
Tickets for all shows are $30.
Appalachian Regional Theatrical Society has the distinction of being the first community theater in this area to present the musical.
"If you're going to dream, dream big," director Nick Spencer said. "'CATS' is a dream show for a lot of people in this community, and we're going to prove dreams do come true."
The cast has already been exposed to a unique experience by being afforded the chance to work with Broadway actress and former Kingsport native Sarah Bumgarner for a week's worth of master classes.
She was most recently seen in the Broadway touring production of "CATS," both times as Victoria.
The costumes worn on stage for the production will be costumes worn by actors from the original Broadway tour. Production manager Heather Short said, "When we say we're bringing Broadway to the region, we mean it."
"CATS" is directed by Spencer and stage managed by Short, with set design is by David Hyde Jr. and music direction by Serina Marshall and John Cook.
Appalachian Regional Theatrical Society's premiere production of "CATS" comes to the Hayes Performing Arts Center in Blowing Rock on May 13 and 14 at 7:30 p.m. and May 15 at 2 p.m.
