Tavern serves Wine to Water benefit
Stories of helping others have always hit close to home for
Justin Davis, owner of the Town Tavern in Blowing Rock.
So, when an opportunity to help a local nonprofit arose, he wasted little time in offering his services.
To assist in the efforts in providing clean drinking water to citizens of Third World countries, the tavern is hosting a charity event for Wine to Water from 7:30 to 10 p.m. Thursday, April 10, in Blowing Rock.
Proceeds from gross sales for the night and the money raised through raffle tickets will be donated directly to the nonprofit.
Wine to Water raises money for clean water projects through fundraising and awareness events hosted by third-party hosts, such as the Town Tavern of Blowing Rock, and selling Wine to Water wine, according to a news release.
“Wine to Water was built on the back of the Boone community,” Wine to Water media coordinator Josh Elliott said. “The town has been nothing but good to us. We’ve always been thrilled to be included in the local community, which is extremely important to us. This is who supports us day in and day out.”
Davis said he has worked with Wine to Water’s founder, Doc Hendley, on other charitable endeavors.
“I have been able to give back like this in several years, but with the Blue Ridge Wine Festival coming up, this seemed like a good platform to do something for Wine to Water,” Davis said. “My father spent some time in Africa when I was little, and he always came back with some really good stories. When Doc got involved and I saw some of his pictures … it hit home a little bit.”
Wine to Water was mutually appreciative of the opportunity to partner for the greater good of helping others.
“Justin (Davis) is a good friend to us,” Elliott said. “He’s an awesome guy, and we’ve always enjoyed going out to their place.”
The Town Tavern is located at 1182 Main St. in downtown Blowing Rock. The event will also feature live music from the Charlie Taylor Duo, door prizes and raffle tickets, with prizes including golf passes, hotel stays, football tickets and more. For more information, visit http://www.winetowater.org.
