Special Olympics at App Ski Jan. 8-9
The 2012 Special Olympics N.C. Winter Games Alpine Skiing & Snowboarding hits the Appalachian Ski Mountain slopes Jan. 8-9.

More than 120 athletes and coaches from 20 local programs and Virginia will participate in the Special Olympics North Carolina Winter Games Alpine Skiing & Snowboarding competition at Appalachian Ski Mountain Jan. 8 to 9.
Athletes will be on the slopes Sunday, Jan. 8, for instruction, and practice runs from 2 to 4 p.m.
The 2012 Special Olympics North Carolina Winter Games Alpine Skiing & Snowboarding will officially kick-off with the opening ceremonies at Meadowbrook Inn in Blowing Rock on Sunday, Jan. 8, at 7:30 p.m.
The skiing competition and awards ceremony take place Monday, Jan. 9, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the French Swiss Ski College at Appalachian Ski Mountain.
Athletes competing in the games represent the following counties/agencies: Beaufort/Hyde, Brunswick, Buncombe, Cabarrus, Cleveland, Davidson, Davie, Forsyth, Gaston, Guilford/Greensboro, Guilford/High Point, J. Iverson Riddle Development Center, Johnston, Lake Norman, Lee, Mecklenburg, Orange, Pasquotank/Camden, Wake and Watauga.
Special Olympics Virginia will also have a delegation participating in the games.
Special Olympics North Carolina also hosts the Southeast Alpine Competition. The 2012 SE Alpine Competition will be held at the French Swiss Ski College Feb. 5 to 7. All competition events are free and open to the public.
