Speakeasy hosts Beard & Moustache Party
Things are about to get hairy in downtown
Speakeasy Tattoo Company is hosting the fourth annual Beard & Moustache Party Tuesday, Nov. 13, and all wearers of facial hair – for real and faux – are invited.
The party originally started as an anniversary celebration for the local tattoo parlor, but has since grown into a friendly fight of follicles and a night of customer appreciation, with the popular beard and mustache competition – always a close shave – doling out prizes to winners in multiple categories.
New this year is a family hour, running from 5 to 6:30 p.m., in which younger contestants can win by a hair.
“We are inviting infants through 20-year-olds,” manager Nicole Kinnamon said. “Clients have said their kids were disappointed that they couldn’t come to the party with their own beard or mustache, so that is why we added the family time. We can’t wait to see the kids’ beards and mustaches.”
Naturally, the younger contestants can tap their creative streaks and make their own beards or mustaches, with categories being broken down by age.
The adult party, for those 21 and older only, runs from 8 to 11 p.m. and features free beer and numerous categories, including Men’s, Women’s, Fake, Creative, Best Beard and Creeper. Contestants can only compete in one category each.
“The women tend to be more creative, as we don’t have our own facial hair,” Kinnamon said.
To compete, contestants must have a beard, mustache or, needless to say, a combination of the two. A registration sheet is available at the tattoo shop.
Prizes range from Speakeasy gift certificates to those from other local businesses. Each category will have a first- and second-place winner, who will win a $100 and $50 gift certificate, respectively.
“We want people to celebrate another year with us and win gift certificates,” Kinnamon said. “And the free beer doesn’t hurt.”
