School of Music concerts Oct. 25 & 31
Works for woodwinds performed Oct. 25
Contemporary and classical works for windwinds will be performed Oct. 25 at Appalachian State University.
The program features student musicians from the Hayes School of Music.
The program begins at 8 p.m. in Broyhill Music Center's Rosen Concert Hall. Admission is free.
The ensemble Blazing Bassoons will perform Irving Berlin's "Blue Skies." Also on the program are "Trio for Flute, Oboe, and Clarinet" by Albert Schmutz, "Divertimento, No. 2, K. 439b" by Mozart performed on clarinet and bassoon, the allegretto from "Duet No. 2 from Three Concert Duets, Op. 10" by Friedrich Kuhlau performed on saxophone and "Divertissement, Op. 6" by Albert Roussel performed by a flute, oboe, clarinet, horn, bassoon and piano ensemble.
The student groups are coached by Hayes School of Music faculty members Jon Beebe, Alicia Chapman, Andrea Cheeseman and Scott Kallestad.
Halloween Monster Concert Oct. 31 at ASU
The organ studio in Appalachian State University's Hayes School of Music will present the fourth annual Halloween Monster Concert Sunday, Oct. 31, at 8 p.m., in Broyhill Music Center's Rosen Concert Hall. Admission is free, all are welcome, and costumes are encouraged.
Featured will be Bach's famous "Toccata and Fugue in d minor" with special audience participation, the singing of "pumpkin carols," a Name That Scary Tune quiz, free candy, costume contest, and more.
