Rhodes Brothers play Banner Elk July 1
The Banner Elk Chamber of Commerce's third Summer Concert in the Park will be on Thursday, July 1, featuring the Rhodes Brothers.
The Rhodes Brothers Band has been performing together for 28 years. Headed by Tim and Chris Rhodes (vocals, keyboards and guitar) and Dave Calvert (drums), the group formed while attending Appalachian State University in the early '80s and performing at spots like P.B. Scotts and Antlers in Blowing Rock.
The group has since performed in Asheville and Charlotte, as well as other cities in North Carolina. Occasionally, they're joined by former member Lory Morgan, guitarist, as well as Doyle Lawson, fiddle player, and Alan Johnson, bassist.
Johnson's's brother, Bruce, was the original bassist in the band, and Alan, at age 12, was the fiddle player when they performed at the opening of Sugar Top.
Last year, they headlined the Avery County Fair in Newland and will be doing so again this year on Sept. 18.
The band performs a variety of music, including blues, Motown, Top 40 and dance. For booking information, call Calvert at (828) 733-8985.
The concert starts at 6:30 p.m. at the stage behind Bank of America on N.C. 194. Chairs, blankets and coolers are encouraged, and food will also be available for purchase at the concert. Raffle tickets can be purchased for prizes, as well as for the 50/50 split of the "pot."
The sponsor of this concert is Mountain Sotheby's International Realty ( http://www.mountainsothebysrealty.com).
The next Banner Elk Summer Concert in the Park is scheduled for Thursday, July 8, featuring bluegrass from the Johnson Brothers and is sponsored by Vivo's.
