What town could be more fitting to host two new holiday events than the town known as the Home of the Perfect Christmas Tree?

Since 2003, Spruce Pine has been known as "The Home of the Perfect Christmas Tree."
Based on the book by a local author, "The Year of the Perfect Christmas Tree," the town is the home to non-profit project, The Home of the Perfect Christmas, serving more than one hundred craftspeople and artists.

"The Home of the Perfect Christmas Tree project has grown since its inception in 2003 and has received national recognition and exposure for the good works it is doing to assist the citizens of Western North Carolina after the mass exodus of manufacturing in the area," project director Shirley Hise said. "We are excited to expand the project to include two new signature events, building on the brand of the project and promoting Spruce Pine as the Home of the Perfect Christmas Tree."

The first of the events, A Holiday Market, will take place Dec. 5-6 at the Cross Street Center in Spruce Pine. The Holiday Market will feature artists and crafts people from the HPCT project, as well as other artists from the area.

"The Market will be an exciting addition to the Toe River Studio Tour weekend," event coordinator Patti Jensen said. "The event will be beautifully decorated with concepts provided by event chairperson Jerry Jackson, deputy director of Penland School of Crafts. Market attendees will enjoy browsing booths with great gift ideas, a Market Cafe and holiday entertainment."

A unique Holiday Festival will debut in the town of Spruce Pine on Saturday, Dec. 12. To be held on "Upper Street" in historic downtown Spruce Pine, the festival will feature ice skating in the streets, bonfires with s'mores bars, a chili cook off, holiday entertainment, a kid's holiday tent, storytelling at the HPCT store and more.

"The Holiday Festival is another great opportunity for visitors to experience a unique mountain holiday event in a very special place," Hise said. "This event will be a day of fun and holiday spirit for the whole community and again showcases the Home of the Perfect Christmas Tree and the positive impact it continues to have on our region."
