Organ recitals return to BUMC
Boone United Methodist Church is putting on its Sunday best.
With its 2010 concert series in full swing, performances from June through September will be devoted to organ music.
"It's the best thing going in the High Country for organ concerts," organist Ralph Tilden said. "We have an excellent organist (Ronnie Wise), and we found that a lot of summer visitors prefer to come to these concerts, because they're free, and we really offer the best performers in the nation."
Tilden opens the organ segment of the series, all held on Sundays, on June 27 at 4 p.m.
A native of North Carolina, Tilden is associate organist and artist-in-residence at Boone United Methodist Church (BUMC), as well as a member of the American Guild of Organists.
He received bachelor's and master's degrees in organ performance under the tutelage of noted organist Parvin Titus from the Cincinatti Conservatory of Music, also studying in France under organ virtuoso Andre Marchal.
He's since held positions as organist-choirmaster at Episcopal churches in Cincinnati, Ohio, and Florida, having taught organ, service playing, music theory and chorus at both the Cincinnati Conservatory and Edison Community College in Fort Myers, Fla.
The series continues July 25 with Marilyn Keiser, Aug. 15 with BUMC organist Ronnie Wise, Aug. 29 with the Chenaults Organ Duo (suggested donation of $10), and Sept. 26 with Faye Ayers and Ronnie Wise.
