Neighbors play Banner Elk Aug. 19
The Banner Elk Chamber of Commerce's 10th Summer Concert in the Park features your friends and Neighbors.
On Thursday, Aug. 19, old-time and bluegrass outfit The Neighbors takes the stage. The band has been performing together for more than 11 years and has evolved both in musicianship and personnel.
Originally, the group began as informal picking sessions in one another's living rooms and on front porches. What began as a means to express a passion for acoustic music has grown to the dynamic, energetic group that is The Neighbors.
The group performs at all manner of functions, including clubs, festivals, benefits for associations and individuals and private parties. The group has made several local television appearances and has been on syndicated and Internet radio.
The Neighbors have been invited to and have performed at the Bronzewound Showcase at the 2008 IBMAs in Nashville, Tenn. They also recently completed a successful four-day stint at MerleFest. Some of the tunes from the MerleFest performance can be viewed by checking out their MySpace page or on YouTube.
The band has provided music for the Miracle on the Mountain outdoor drama at the Crossnore School in Crossnore.
They also have made several local television appearances and also participated in the 2004 Caldwell County Traditional Musicians' Showcase, entitled "Playin' Hooky."
Featuring Bob Henson on lead vocals and guitar, Gary Saunders on banjo and vocals, Rick Conway on bass and vocals, and Rick Everhardt on mandolin, The Neighbors have released four albums, including Noise in the Attic, Carolina Memories, Live at the Feed & Seed and Rough Cuts.
The Aug. 19 concert starts at 6:30 p.m. at the stage behind Bank of America on N.C. 194.
Concert-goers are encouraged to bring chairs or blankets and coolers. Food will also be available for purchase at the concert. Raffle tickets can be purchased for prizes, as well as for the 50/50 split of the raffle pot.
