As part of its continuing series, High Country Lifelong Learning presents “The Biogeography of Ecuador: Recent Changes to the Coast, Jungle and Native People.”

The lecture, to be hosted by naturalist Wendy Patoprsty, will take place at 2 p.m. Dec. 4 at the Lois Harrill Senior Center in Boone.

Attendees will learn about current natural resource challenges, such as mass mangrove destruction due to shrimp farming, what is being done to help struggling farmers, destruction to land by cattle ranching and the impact on indigenous tribes by toxic waste from petrochemical exploitation.

It will be held in the upstairs conference room of the Lois Harrill Senior Center, located off Poplar Grove Connector in Boone. High Country Lifelong Learning offers lectures and activities free to adults in the area.
