Few people take their jobs as seriously as the professionals and volunteers at OASIS (Opposing Abuse with Shelter, Information and Services).

Twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year, they are doing the hard work necessary to help victims of abuse, assault and violence in Watauga and Avery counties.

It’s no wonder then that they like to let their hair down once a year and throw a great party for their volunteers and supporters.

The 11th annual Midnight at the OASIS party will be held from 7 to 11 p.m. on Friday, May 2, at the Meadowbrook Inn and Suites in Blowing Rock. Tickets are on sale now for $35 per person.

The event will include heavy hors d’oeuvres, a cash bar, dancing and live music from the band, Laditude.

Now celebrating 36 years of serving women, children and families in the High Country, OASIS provided services to 750 adults and children in 2013 and responded to 1,700 crisis calls during that time.

This past year, OASIS expanded its services to include Avery County.

“Midnight at the OASIS is our chance to celebrate all that we have accomplished in the past year,” an OASIS spokesperson said. “We take the job very seriously, so this is an opportunity to laugh, get together with our volunteers and have a good time. It really is good to be together like this.”

Meadowbrook Inn has reserved a number of specially priced $79 rooms for folks attending Midnight at the OASIS. For reservations, call the Meadowbrook Inn at (828) 295-4300.

The band Laditude originated in Boone but moved to the Asheville area nearly a decade ago.

The band, with a set list of more than a thousand songs, plays a mixture of pop, rock, Motown, beach, Latin and smooth jazz, with the intention of getting people out of their seats and onto the dance floor.
