It's Almost Midnight at the OASIS
The Middle East has always been a place of intrigue, mystery and romance. If you think back to the golden age of Hollywood, some of its most powerful images have come from films, such as Casablanca, Lawrence of Arabia and The Sheik.
The hypnotic spell of the Middle Eastern dessert returns to the High Country next month when OASIS hosts its eighth annual Midnight at the OASIS Fundraiser at the Meadowbrook Inn. The event is set for Friday, May 7, from 7 to 11 p.m.
This year, OASIS (Opposing Abuse with Services, Information and Shelter) celebrates 32 years of providing services and shelter for survivors of domestic abuse and sexual assault.
Midnight at the OASIS will feature heavy hors d'oeuvres, complimentary chocolates from Kilwin's, and dancing to the band Laditude. A cash bar will be available. Participants will also be treated to free bellydancing lessons and a short performance by The Lost Jewels of Ghawazee, a dance troupe from Granite Falls.
"Most important will be the reminder of the why funds are being raised, as a courageous survivor shares her story and a local business partner speaks about their support for OASIS," an OASIS spokesperson said.
Tickets for the Midnight at the OASIS benefit party are $30 per person and are available for a secure online purchase at http://www.oasisinc.org, at the OASIS office at 225-4 Birch St., in Boone, or at Black Bear Books in Boone.
Proceeds raised from the event will go to direct services for those seeking safety for themselves and their children and for those who have experienced sexual violence.
Corporate sponsors for the event include Mast General Store, Meadowbrook Inn, Watauga Women's Center, Friends of High Country Women's Fund, Wachovia Bank, Allen Wealth Management, Marc and Sandra Kadyk, LifeStore Bank, Dan and Summer Hays, Chetola Resort, Galileo's, Bunk and Nancy Spann, Brent and Patricia Hall, SEANC, House of Plants, Bare Essentials Natural Foods, and Melanie's Food Fantasy.
