As 2013 winds to a close, many local partygoers are searching
for the perfect way to ring in the New Year with family and friends.
To help find a suitable soirée, The Mountain Times has compiled a list of New Year’s parties happening around the High Country.
For $70 a person, enjoy a special New Year’s Eve celebration dinner at Joy Bistro (115 New Market Center). The meal will feature five courses, including lobster and crawfish, beef Carpaccio, Parmesan polenta cake, various salads, duck confit and more. For reservations, call (828) 265-0500.
Murphy’s Restaurant & Pub
New Year’s Eve festivities at Murphy’s (747 King St.) begin at 10 p.m., with live music from the Sushi Brothers and several others. The cost is a $10 cover. Only those 21 and older will be admitted.
The Naked Gods will headline a very special New Year’s Eve party at Boone Saloon (489 W. King St.) on Tuesday, Dec. 31. The show begins at 10 p.m., and only those 21 and older will be admitted. Cover costs $5.
CoBo Sushi Bistro and Bar
Be sure to make reservations at CoBo Sushi Bistro and Bar (161 Howard St.), which will be open from 5 p.m. to 2 a.m. on New Year’s Eve. There will also be a champagne toast at midnight. For more information, call (828) 386-1201.
The Rock Sports Bar & Grill
If you are looking to catch some premier college football action this New Year’s, make plans to stop by The Rock Sports Bar & Grill (276 Watauga Village Drive) for cold beer, hot wings, burgers and more. From 10:30 p.m. to 2 a.m., join Char (179 Howard St.) for its New Year’s Eve Bash, featuring a DJ dance party and free champagne toast at midnight. Admission costs $5 in advance and $7 at the door. Green Park Inn
Join Green Park Inn (9239 Valley Blvd.) in Blowing Rock to ring in 2014. The New Year’s gala, for the price of $42, will feature musical guests The Harris Brothers, starting at 9 p.m. Between sets, a DJ will perform. Dinner reservations are available and can be booked separately. The early dinner begins at 6 p.m., with the gala following at 9 p.m. The meal will feature three courses, including a mesclun greens salad, grilled sirloin steak and a banana split cake. Canyons of the Blue Ridge

Appalachian Ski Mountain
Spend New Year’s Eve on the slopes of Appalachian Ski Mountain (940 Ski Mountain Road) for its New Year’s Bash. In addition to fresh powder, there will also be fireworks, torchlight skiing and moonlight ice-skating, from 10 p.m. till midnight. Restaurant specials are also available, from 9 p.m. to midnight. Sugar Mountain Resort
Beginning at 11 p.m., Sugar Mountain Resort (1009 Sugar Mountain Drive) will feature a mountain-style New Year’s celebration with the Johnson Brothers. Sorrento’s (142 Main St. E.) will host a prime rib dinner from 5 to 10 p.m. The adjoining sushi bar, Barra, will host a DJ at 10 p.m. There will also be a champagne toast. The cost at Barra is $10 for those 21 and older and $20 for those younger than 21.
Beech Mountain Resort New Year’s Eve Bash
Come celebrate the New Year with Beech Mountain Resort (1007 Beech Mountain Parkway). On Dec. 31, the Beech Tree Grille will open at 8 p.m. for a 21 and older event, lasting until 1:30 a.m. Enjoy two live bands and a DJ. Buckeye Recreation Center Family Fest
Why wait until midnight to celebrate? You and your family are invited to Buckeye Recreation Center’s (on Beech Mountain Parkway) Family Fest.
