Hear for the Holidays winner announced
From left, Drs. Charles Ford, Mary Markovich and Andrew Lehr of Blue Ridge Ear, Nose and Throat have announced the winner of this year's Hear for the Holidays contest.
Barbara Searborough of Boone is this year’s Hear for the Holidays contest winner.
Searborough will be fitted with two ReSound Alera 7 hearing aids, batteries and all related services, all for free, courtesy of Blue Ridge Ear, Nose and Throat.
The hearing aids’ average retail price is $4,400.
Searborough was Contestant B in the contest and was actually nominated by last year’s winner, Veronica Brocco.
“(Brocco) was so kind in paying it forward that she wanted Barbara to benefit from the hearing aids, as well,” said Dr. Mary Markovich of BRENT. “Just being able to do this is really helpful for those who can’t afford hearing aids but really need them to contribute to the community. It’s so great that … we’re able to help someone this year, and we hope to continue this contest in the years to come with both The Mountain Times’ and ReSound’s help.”
Contestants were asked to submit essays for publication in The Mountain Times, stating a need and how they, or someone they know, would benefit from the services. Mountain Times readers then voted for the contestant they thought would benefit most.
