Habitat to host informational meeting
Watauga County Habitat for Humanity will host an information meeting Dec. 14 at 5:30 p.m. at the Watauga County Library in hopes of recruiting potential families in need of housing.
At the meeting, Watauga Habitat will recruit families for homes in its new 20-home development, GreenWood, located in the Green Valley area of northeast Watauga County.
“We are very excited about the homes we’re building in GreenWood, but need to get the word out to potential families who are looking for quality, affordable housing,” said Alex Hooker, executive director of Watauga County Habitat for Humanity. “We hope that anyone interested in partnering with Habitat will come to this meeting to find out what a great opportunity living in GreenWood will be and to answer any questions they have.”
Applicants must demonstrate need due to overcrowded or substandard conditions, unreasonable housing costs in relation to gross income, physical need requirements or an inability to get a conventional loan.
Families are chosen based on their need for housing, their ability to make payment son an affordable, no-profit, no-interest mortgage and their willingness to be active partners with Habitat’s mission to provide decent housing to low-income families in Watauga County.
