A fundraiser breakfast for Avery County Habitat for Humanity will take place Saturday, Jan. 14, from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Bella’s Restaurant in Banner Elk.

The buffet will include bacon, country ham, sausage, biscuits, gravy, eggs and pancakes. It is all you can eat. The cost is a recommended $7 donation.

The breakfast is to raise money for the building of homes in Avery County.

According to Avery Habitat, Rick and Lisa Smith and their son, Lakota, are excited that they will be moving into their new home in Milford Meadows soon. The home for Pamela Calloway and her daughters is dried-in, and the drywall will be going up in the next couple weeks.

These families are working 500 hours of “sweat equity,” paying monthly payments toward closing costs and attending classes on home maintenance, consumer credit, household budgeting and neighborhood relations.

Habitat homeowners pay back a 20-year no-interest mortgage.

“Thank you to Bella’s Restaurant, Food Lion and Good Night Brothers for their generosity,” said Melanie Burgin, office and programs manager with Avery County Habitat for Humanity. “All money raised will go to the building of affordable homes right here in Avery County.”
