Get ready to Run for the Red

The Watauga County Chapter of the American Red Cross has opened registration for the second marathon and half-marathon event, Run for the Red.

In its inaugural year, the event raised $7,000 for the chapter.

This year's event will be held on Saturday, Sept. 17, and will begin at Valle Crucis Elementary School. The marathon will start at 7 a.m., with the half marathon following at 7:30 a.m.

Registration for the full marathon is $65 and $45 for the half. Finishers will receive a medal, and prizes will be awarded for the top three male and top three female finishers.
