To encourage community support while expressing an untold amount of appreciation for the dedication of everyone who makes the facility a success, the Watauga County Public Library is gearing up for two special programs this spring.

Remembering Evelyn Johnson

The legacy of the late Evelyn Johnson, a longtime, much-loved librarian, will live on for decades to come, as the Appalachian Regional Library will dedicate a meeting room in her honor at the library at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 10.

Johnson spent her entire career — 37 years — as librarian and devoted much of her time programming the room that will now be named for her years of service and dedication.
Johnson died suddenly in January 2013.

“We look forward to celebrating Evelyn’s accomplishments and 37 years of service to the community on May 10, and we know she will be here in spirit, smiling,” county librarian Monica Caruso said.
