Flute, trumpet and brass ensemble concerts at ASU

A series of recitals beginning Oct. 26 will feature the flute, trumpet and brass ensembles in Appalachian State University's Hayes School of Music. Admission to each performance is free and open to the public.

The flute ensemble will perform Oct. 26 at 8 p.m. in Broyhill Music Center's Rosen Concert.
The ensemble will premiere "O'Malley's Emerald" by Brittany Dunton, a junior music performance major at Appalachian. The ensemble also will perform "Rose Cottage" by Catherine McMichael, "Fantasia on Red River Valley" by Kelly Via and "Chamber Jazz" by Christopher Caliendo.

A flute septet will perform "Changes" by Lowndes Maury. Soloist Hunter Soots and Jessica Stallings will perform "Andante and Rondo, Op. 25" by Franz Doppler.

Trumpet students will perform Oct. 28 at 6 p.m. in Broyhill Music Center's Rosen Concert Hall. The program includes the allegro from "Concerto in E flat" by Franz Joseph Haydn, "Sonata for Trumpet and Piano" by Kent Kennan, "Maid of the Mist" by Herbert L. Clarke "Trumpeter's Lullaby" by Leroy Anderson and "Aria Con Variazioni" by G. F. Handel.

The Appalachian Trumpet Choir, Appalachian Horn Choir and the Appalachian Tuba/Euphonium Collective will perform Oct. 31 at 2 p.m. in Broyhill Music Center's Rosen Concert Hall.

The program includes "Fanfare for a New Beginning" by Lewis J. Buckley, "Cityscapes" by Erik Morales, "Lauda" by Giacomo Fogliano, "Zwei Blauen Augen" by Gustav Mahler, "Tubamobile" by Thom Ritter George and a medley of George M. Cohan compositions arranged by  Paul Nagle.
