Pairing metropolitan style with small-town heart, Haircut 101,
Gladiola Girls and Char present the OASIS Benefit Fashion Show on Friday, March 23, at Char in
downtown Boone from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.
Tickets are $60, which includes the fashion show,
buffet dinner from Char, desserts from Stick Boy Bread Company, a complimentary glass of wine, a
raffle ticket for one of four grand prizes, a gift bag and a dance party.
All proceeds
benefit Boone-based OASIS (Opposing Abuse with Service, Information and Shelter) Inc.
“It’s going
to be a really glamorous, fun evening,” said Bishop Glover of Haircut 101. “We certainly do
expect to sell out. Ticket sales are great so far.”
Gladiola Girls will provide the spring
and summer fashions in a tribal theme — “which is very hot right now,” Glover noted.
Modeling the clothes, with hair and makeup by Haircut 101, will be local women, including
Gwen Dhing of Makoto’s and Kelly DuPree of Boone Saloon. DJ Corey Brennan will spin music.
Every ticketholder will be eligible for one of four grand raffle prizes, valued between
$350 and $800.
In addition, $5 raffle tickets will be sold for at least 20 prizes, valued
between $75 and $300 and donated by local businesses. Raffle tickets can be purchased wherever
fashion tickets are sold, and you do not have to be present to win.
Ticketholders will
receive gift bags full of goodies, coupons and gift certificates, worth more than $150. Businesses
that have donated for gift bags and raffles include Haircut 101, Gladiola Girls, Hob Nob Farm
Café, Marathon Chiropractic, Andrea N. Capua, Makoto’s, Char, Black Cat Burrito, Our Daily Bread,
Bumble & Bumble, Magic Cycles, Eli Peltz Massage and Boone Saloon.
“We’ve got thousands
and thousands of dollars worth of raffle prizes, (and) each ticket comes with a gift bag,” Glover
said. “It certainly pays for itself.”
Glover credited Haircut 101 owner John Mena with
generating the idea for the fashion show.
“He’s always been a huge supporter of OASIS and
really women in general,” Glover said. “Part of our job in the beauty industry is empowering
women.”
She added, “Another goal of ours was to really bring together all these downtown
businesses and provide everyone with a chance to help out … to promote a sense of unity and a
‘shop local’ vibe and promote our downtown.
“We are a small town, but we do have a lot of
style. We aren’t behind the times. We want to show that, too.”
OASIS provides support and
services to victims of domestic violence and assault. In 2011, OASIS served 338 survivors and 326
of their children and responded to 1,891 crisis events and information calls.
Contributions support the OASIS Crisis Line (828-262-5035), available 24 hours per day,
365 days per year; the protective shelter for women and their children; support, education and
mental health services; and community education about domestic violence.
“We’re just
always thrilled when people in the community are proactive about knowing that we could definitely
use their financial support,” said Rebecca Gummere, associate director of OASIS. “And not just
financial, it’s about awareness raising in addition to fundraising.”
OASIS representatives
will share information about the organization’s mission and services at the fashion show
event.
Tickets for the fashion show are available at Haircut 101, Gladiola Girls and Char.
Seating is limited. Char is located at 179 Howard St. in downtown Boone. For more information,
