Farewell, 2012!

The High Country is celebrating the New Year (post-Mayan apocalypse), with everything from dance parties to ambient dinners. Regardless of county, or your taste for New Year’s drinks, there is something going on.

Casa Rustica (1348 N.C. 105 South) invites revelers to enjoy New Year’s Eve with Italian-American cuisine, New Year’s specials and jazz music from Todd Wright and Friends. Blowing Rock

The Green Park Inn (9239 Valley Blvd.) will be hosting a string of events to bow in the new year. 
A three-course early dinner, served from 6 to 8 p.m., will be accompanied by the Charlie Ellis Jazz Trio in the lobby until 9 p.m. Tickets are $42 per person. A Dinner Dance will feature a five-course meal, starting at 9 p.m., and dancing in the grand ballroom to classic swing, big band, beach set, and ’70s and ’80s classic rock until 1 a.m. The $90 admission includes a complimentary champagne toast, fresh fruit and homemade muffins at midnight. Valle Crucis

This year’s New Year’s Eve dinner at The 1861 Farmhouse (3608 N.C. 194) will feature a seven-course gourmet meal, prepared by Chef Sam Beasley. The menu includes butternut squash bisque, 1861 Oysters Rockefeller, shrimp and goat cheese ravioli and Grilled Hanging Buffalo Tenders.
Head baker Carla Booth will be creating a delectable assortment of Petit Fours for Dessert, including creme brulee profiterole, tarte tatin, Chef Sam’s homemade caramel corn ice cream and chocolate walnut bread pudding with maple bourbon creme Anglais sauce. Dinner includes a wine tasting, featuring 1861 Farmhouse Gold and Silver Medal award-winning wines.

Banner Elk

Beech Mountain

Beech Mountain Resort’s (1007 Beech Mountain Parkway) Beech Tree Bar will play in 2013 with the Jonathan Birchfield Band’s unique mix of country and rock tunes.
 Safe rides within the town of Beech Mountain are available to those taking advantage of the drink specials and champagne toast.
The celebration starts at 8 p.m. and goes until 1:30 a.m. Only ages 21 and older will be permitted, and the cost is $10 per person.

The fireworks show at Sugar Mountain Resort (1009 Sugar Mountain Dr.) will bring in 2013 with a colorful bang.
