On Saturday, Sept. 29, the community is invited to join Critter Magazine, PARTNERS!Canines and animal lovers, shelters and rescue groups from all over the High Country at Green Mother Goods in Boone to help raise awareness for the homeless pet crisis in the High Country.
Registration for the Pack Walk is $5, but anyone receiving walk sponsorships of $20 or more may walk for free. Registration and sponsorship forms may be picked up at the walk, or prior to the walk at Mountain Dog and Friends in Foscoe or at Animal Emergency Medical and Pet Care Clinic of the High Country in Boone.
Friendly, leashed and vaccinated dogs are welcome. Registration is at 9 a.m., and the walk will begin at 10 a.m. The course will take participants 2 miles around Boone (participants may walk at their own pace) and gather back at Green Mother Goods for an adoption event, celebration and raffle to benefit the participating shelters and rescue groups.
The High Country event will be held the same day as the National Pack Walk in Washington D.C. and will also serve as a kick-off event for more cooperative efforts between the shelters and rescue groups in the High Country. The ultimate goal is to end euthanasia as a form of population control for all adoptable shelter pets in the region.
