Cosmic Charlie at Boone Saloon
As a kick-off to a jam-packed weekend of live entertainment, highlighted by the Grateful Dead's Bill Kreutzmann, the annual Music on the Mountaintop festival, set for Aug. 26 and 27 in Foscoe, will provide an opportunity for fans to enjoy a free evening of fun with Dead tribute band Cosmic Charlie at Boone Saloon on Thursday, Aug. 25.
Attendees of that evening's show will receive a full refund of their $10 cover charge if they also purchase, on site, a ticket to Music on the Mountaintop. Purchasers of either full-weekend or single-day tickets will qualify for the refund.
Like Dark Star Orchestra and New Potato Caboose before them, Cosmic Charlie faithfully recreates vintage performances of the Grateful Dead. For years, fans across the country have swarmed to enjoy the band's faithful interpretation of the Dead's "long strange trip."
Cosmic Charlie's Boone Saloon show begins at 10 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 25. The Boone Saloon is located at 489 W. King St. in downtown Boone.
Music on the Mountaintop will be held at Grandfather Mountain Campground, located near Boone on N.C. 105, on Friday and Saturday, Aug. 26 and 27.
In addition to Bill Kreutzmann and 7 Walkers, the festival will feature international Newgrass superhero Sam Bush, Americana-roots jammers Railroad Earth, hardcore picking icons Acoustic Syndicate, hometown funk favorites Yo Mama's Big Fat Booty Band, and more than two dozen additional national, regional and local artists on three stages.
