The High Country High School Community Chorale will perform its Christmas choral concert on Thursday, Dec. 17. Starting at 7:30 p.m., the performance will take place in the Rosen Concert Hall of Appalachian State University's Hayes School of Music. Admission is free.

The High Country High School Community Chorale began as a dream shared more than four years ago by conductor Pamela Hopton-Jones with Dottie Sykes, conductor of the Presbyterian-Methodist Community Children's Choir, which she has conducted for nearly 30 years.

This dream has now resulted in the first High Country High School Community Chorale, an ensemble of 30 charter members. The chorale exists to increase the appreciation of, and participation in, a high-quality choral music experience by the youth of the High Country of North Carolina.

"By so doing, we increase the overall musical experience of the culture at large," Hopton-Jones said.

The High Country High School Community Chorale is in its first semester and is excited to share with the community what its members have accomplished. The following repertoire will be performed:

? Jesus is Born
? Alabare (Sing Allelu)
? Psalm 139
? Come to Me (Based on Matthew 11: 28-30)
? Jazz Gloria, featuring Patrick Coston on string bass and Doug Jones on tubano
? The Prince of Peace (Scriptural Reading) from Isaiah 9:2, 6, & 7 & Isaiah 12: 2-6 (featuring the men of the chorale)
? Mary Did You Know? (featuring the ladies of the chorale)
? Carols Around utilizing these carols: Dona Nobis Pacem, The First Noel, It Came Upon a Midnight Clear, Away in a Manger
? Little Babe
? Mangwane Mpulele/Kinelwaki Pule: South African Song
? Deck the Halls, featuring Patrick Coston on triangle and Doug Jones on snare drum.
? Caribe Noel, featuring percussionists Doug Jones on tubano, Patrick Coston on guiro, and James Ellington on maracas

Charter members of the High Country High School Community Chorale include sopranos Sarah Barry, Kassie Casner, Sidney Ginn, Elizabeth Harrell, Katie Hartley, Marjorie Hubert, Ashton Kacsmaryk, Caroline Lonas, Stephanie Richard, Laiken Williams and Lizzie Zimmerman; altos Anne Barbee, Hannah Bates, Addi Berry, Emily Berry, Leah Clemens, Stephanie Freyler, Lauren Jones and Gwen Prevette; tenors Shepherd Barry, Titus Casner, Nathan Jones, Jon Kelley and Nathanael Rains; and basses Nathan Bates, Justin Drake, James Ellington, Jonathan Faulks, Eric Griffin and Edward Oliver.
