Columnist Bloomfield to speak at Beech Mountain Club July 1
Douglas M. Bloomfield, a syndicated columnist, Washington lobbyist and consultant will be the keynote speaker at the Havurah of the High Country on Thursday, July 1, at 12 p.m. at the Beech Mountain Club, located at 112 Clubhouse Drive in Beech Mountain.
Bloomfield's topic will be "A Behind the Scenes Update on the Mideast Crisis." He will give an up-close look at how current events, including the Gaza Flotilla incident, affect Israel-Arab relations, U.S. relations and the peace process.
Bloomfield spent nine years as the legislative director and chief lobbyist for the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC). In this position, he was responsible for developing and guiding strategy on Capitol Hill to secure more than $3 billion in annual military and economic aid for Israel, and strengthening U.S.-Israel relations.
As the World Jewish Congress representative in Washington, he helped coordinate the Swiss banks and Nazi gold investigations and U.S. Government support for restitution of Jewish properties seized by former Nazi and Communist regimes.
His weekly column about the Washington scene and U.S.-Mideast policy appears in numerous American newspapers and many foreign publications.
