Children's Playhouse enrolling for musical classes
Have a child who loves to sing, bang a drum, leap like a lion,
play an instrument, act out a story or simply move, move, move?
The Children's Playhouse in Boone has a lineup of classes planned for active children this fall.
"We are so lucky to have seasoned teacher Lisa Baldwin bring her dynamic, educational program 'Music, Minds, and Motion' to The Playhouse. We will have energetic classes that promote literacy and a love of music for every age range from babies and expectant parents up to grade three," said Playhouse executive director Kathy Parham.
"Music, Minds, and Motion" classes combine music, movement and stories in a lively, age appropriate format. A board-certified elementary school teacher, Baldwin is also an accomplished singer-songwriter who has performed across the South and has been a frequent ringleader in years past for the Easter parade at the Watauga County Public Library, Parham said.

In addition to classes for babies, toddlers and preschoolers, Baldwin will also offer "Step in the Story" for older kids (age 5-10), a class which will enhance students' literacy with opportunities to bring tales to life through acting, storytelling, singing and music making. Baldwin has a master's degree in Appalachian Studies from Appalachian State University.
Six week classes begin Sept. 14. Cost is $55 for Playhouse members and $65 for nonmembers. Registration is required; preregister by Sept. 13 and get a free music CD and T-shirt. Call (828) 263-0011 to sign up.
