Breast cancer benefit this Saturday
Kim and Scott Burns before she was diagnosed with breast cancer.
A benefit dinner and concert will be held for the Kimberly
Griffin Burns Benefit Fund from 5 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 2, at the Recreation Center in
Morganton.
The event will include spaghetti and pinto beans “poor man” dinners, eat in or
take out, served from 5 to 8 p.m. The band, Fox and Company, will be playing live music from 6 to 9
p.m. There will also be a silent auction and raffle.
Kimberly Burns, the wife of Blowing
Rock ABC Store employee Scott Burns, was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2012.
“Kim
completed chemotherapy in January and begins daily radiation treatment in February,” Scott Burns
said. “She has two surgeries to undergo after course of radiation.”
The Burnses were married
last spring, and Kim’s cancer was diagnosed a few months later in July.
“It has been a long road
from July to now with still much to be done,” said Scott Burns.
Kim Burns will not be able
to attend the fundraiser, because it is dangerous for her to be around a lot of people right after
undergoing chemotherapy, Scott Burns said.
“We can’t give enough credit and thanks to the
doctors, nurses and staff at the Seby Jones Cancer Center and the Watauga Medical Center,” he said.
In addition to Kim’s battle with cancer, Scott Burns has been suffering from chronic neck
pain and migraine headaches due to bone spurs in his vertebrae. He is currently undergoing pain
management therapy and physical therapy for the bone spurs.
